Chris Becker
Chris Becker is a director at Chris Becker & Company, actively involved in all facets of the practice and the service lines offered. He is also responsible for the day-to day management of the practice as a whole.
Chris Becker obtained his B.Com: Accounting Sciences degree from the Potchefstroom University (now the North West University). He also obtained his BCompt: Accounting degree (equivalent of an Honours Degree) and CTA from the University of South Africa.
He served traineeship at Walter Schoch & Company in Vereeniging, where after he qualified as a Chartered Accountant (SA). He was also a part-time lecturer at the Vaal Triangle campus of the Potchefstroom University (now the North West University).
After he completed his traineeship and prior to starting the practice, Chris Becker spent 8 years in commerce and industry. Most of these were spent with Anglo American Corporation, gaining experience in mining accounting, mergers and acquisitions, investigations for take-overs, internal auditing and company financial services.
Chris Becker started Chris Becker & Company in 1984, and bought the practice of Walter Schoch in 1988. Walter Schoch & Company had a sizeable and well established Client base, which had been built over many years (with Walter Schoch being the first registered Chartered Accountant and auditor in the Vaal Triangle, at a time when the area was viewed as an industrial and manufacturing hub).
Over the years, Chris Becker was a driving force behind the development and growth of the practice, which resulted in high standards being maintained and a very favourable reputation being built in business circles. The partners also later acquired another accounting and tax advisory practice, which they integrated into Chris Becker & Company.
Chris Becker was also actively involved in consulting Clients throughout the sales process of their businesses to Johannesburg Stock Exchange listed companies (such as the likes of Bidvest) as well as private equity firms, and assisted Clients in their negotiations leading up to the successful sale of their businesses.
He is passionate about business and entrepreneurship, and takes an active and keen interest in the businesses of his Clients. He is also an avid sports supporter, and is particularly passionate about rugby (having both played, and coached successfully in his younger days).
In his spare time, he enjoys keeping abreast of developments within Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) listed companies and the economy in general, and actively manages his investment portfolio in JSE listed shares.
Eghard Hattingh
Eghard Hattingh is a director at Chris Becker & Company, actively involved in all facets of the practice and numerous service lines offered. He also supports Chris Becker in the day-to day management of the practice as a whole.
Prior to pursuing a career in Accounting and Auditing, Eghard was a mathematics teacher in the Vaal Triangle. He joined Chris Becker & Company, where he served his traineeship, and obtained his B.Com: Accounting Sciences degree and BCompt: Accounting degree (equivalent of an Honours Degree) and CTA from the University of South Africa.
After completing his traineeship, he qualified as a Chartered Accountant (SA), and was appointed as a Partner at the firm in 1992 prior to incorporation.
Eghard Hattingh takes a special interest in management accounting, tax and business consulting services. While he is involved in servicing Clients across industry sectors within Chris Becker & Company, he focuses on the manufacturing, engineering and construction, automotive, agricultural business and retail industries.
Eghard Hattingh was also a driving force behind the development and growth of the practice, maintaining high service standards and building a favourable reputation in business circles. Over the years, he was also instrumental in identifying investment and business opportunities, which the partners considered and pursued.
Eghard is passionate about business and entrepreneurship. He takes an ongoing, active and keen interest in the businesses of his Clients, assisting them in driving performance and efficiencies.
Yolandé van Zyl
Yolandé van Zyl is a director at Chris Becker & Company, involved in Audit, Assurance, Accounting, Estate Administration and Consulting, Sectional Title Management, and Tax Consulting Services.
She joined the firm in January 2011, commencing her SAICA traineeship, and completed her traineeship at the end of 2015.
Yolandé obtained her B.Compt: Accounting Sciences degree from the University of South Africa in 2015, and her Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Accounting Sciences (CTA) through the University of South Africa in 2016.
She obtained her qualification as a Chartered Accountant (SA) in February 2018, and was appointed as an associate partner of the Chris Becker & Co practice in July 2019 prior to incorporation.
Yolandé also completed a Certificate in Deceased Estates Practice through the Centre of Business Law at the University of South Africa in 2019 as well as a Certificate in Sectional Title Management, through the University of Cape Town in 2020.
Yolandé matriculated in 2010 from High School Dr. EG Jansen on the East Rand. She has a special interest in auditing of financial statements and company taxation. She is passionate about Client Service, and also plays an integral role in the day to day management of the office, across various service lines, sectors and service disciplines.
